A 21-year-old man was stabbed multiple times with a butcher knife in a movie theater in Santa Rosa, Calif. on Wednesday while watching the new Blake Lively–starring horror movie The Shallows. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries; the L.A. Times writes that he is "expected to survive." A homeless 23-year-old has been arrested; he reportedly did not know his victim.
“Out of nowhere, he came up from behind him, he stabbed him in the throat, in the arm, in the lung,” Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Josh Ludtke told Press Democrat. The attacker left the weapon in a trash can while exiting the theater. There weren't many people in the afternoon showing, but those in attendance rushed to the victim's aid.
Santa Rosa police have been investigating a murder earlier this week where a man was fatally stabbed 50 times. They believe the crimes may be connected.
