Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’ Expected to Start Filming in 2017

Last August, The Hollywood Reporter learned that Channing Tatum was confirmed to be starring as the lead in Gambit, a film in the Marvel franchise.

While there were initially rumors of a premiere as early as this October, as Entertainment Weekly pointed out, the upcoming film has yet to be given a confirmed release date. Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to see the card-slinging mutant in his first solo film. Speaking with the Hashtag Show, producer Simon Kinberg expressed that he would like production for the film to start in 2017. Regarding plans for Gambit, Kinberg said, “We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning, or spring, of next year.”

According to EW, Doug Liman has replaced Rupert Wyatt as the project’s director. The character Gambit appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then played by Taylor Kitsch. Sources told THR that Tatum was signed on after back-and-forth negotiations. Josh Zetumer wrote the film’s script based on Gambit co-creator Chris Claremont’s treatment. Kinberg, Tatum, Reid Carolin, and Lauren Shuler Donner will be producing the film.
