Lorde has popped up on a few features over the past year, but she hasn't released a full-fledged album since her 2013 Pure Heroine debut. But the singer updated fans by revealing she went on a solo wilderness retreat, which resulted in "most exciting breakthroughs" on the sophomore follow-up.

Other artists should take note from Lorde's strange but effective trip, since being surrounded by nature can be a very calming and inspiring experience:

The singer has been working diligently on the new album all summer, and appears to be utilizing Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff (who has written with Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen and Sia) for help. She tweeted in June, "brats at the concession stand / we really crushed it at work this week" along with a photo of the musician.

Since Pure Heroine, Lorde curated 2014's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Pt. 1 soundtrack and appeared on Disclosure's "Magnets" single last September. Before new album details emerge, watch our throwback interview with the singer at Lollapalooza:
