Gal Gadot is not taking her role as Wonder Woman lightly. The 31 year old actress is excited to reprise her role from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice in the first full-length movie of the lady superhero. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gadot talked about the importance of playing Wonder Woman.
“This is the first time we are telling this story,” Gadot told EW, “And I feel like for so many boys, they have great role models to work with.” The actress goes on to talk about how in a conversation with her four year old daughter about Sleeping Beauty, her daughter told her how the prince was brave and strong, but the princess was weak – “she didn’t do anything.” This common stereotype is one that Wonder Woman hopes she can break for young girls, and give them someone strong to look up to.
Gadot has the chance to be not only a great role model for her own daughter, but for all young girls out there. She hopes the story goes on to inspire everyone who sees the film.
“I feel that I’ve got the opportunity to set a great role model for girls to look up to a strong, active, compassionate, loving, positive woman and I think it’s so important. It’s about time that somebody will do that and I’m very privileged and honored to be the one.”
Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, comes out June 2, 2017.
