Britney Spears' decades-long life as a pop star has been filled with unforgettable moments, and the highs and lows of her fame will be translated to the small screen. According to Deadline, a TV movie about the singer is in the works at Lifetime.
The two-hour biopic is tentatively called Britney and will star Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar!) as the pop princess. Production will begin in Vancouver next month. The film will dig into Britney's tumultuous rise and fall in the music industry, beginning when she was a young girl in Louisiana.
It will also focus on Brit's former relationship with Justin Timberlake and endless tabloid stories (her quickie marriage in Las Vegas to a childhood friend, the divorce with Kevin Federline, and the infamous conservatorship placed by her father). The singer's rep told Deadline she “will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic nor does it have her blessing."
Britney is set for a 2017 premiere, and will be produced by Asylum Entertainment for Lifetime. Based on the TV network's track record (2014's Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B Movie, 2015's Whitney, this year's Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart), this biopic has the chance to go very wrong.
