The DC television universe is expanding to include the first gay superhero to ever lead a series. On Thursday, it was announced that the CW-owned digital platform CW Seed will debut the animated Freedom Fighters: The Ray in 2017.
According to Deadline, The Ray will likely cross over into the CW’s live-action series, and have the voice actor double as the actor in those appearances. The character of Raymond “Ray” Terrill is a reporter exposed to a “genetic light bomb” who decides to use his new powers to fight oppression.
No word on who will play the freedom fighter, but producers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim will shepherd the project.
