Sully Erna, the longtime leader of Godsmack, is returning next month with his second solo studio album, Hometown Life. The singer, songwriter and guitarist of the multi-platinum group is sharing the title track of the new LP to preview his latest sonic direction, which fuses rock with country and even classical elements... and Fuse has the exclusive premiere of the track.
We last heard Godsmack charge through on 2014’s 1000hp, and Erna last presented himself as a solo act on 2010’s Avalon. For “Hometown Life,” however, he opted to reflect on his long journey from humble beginnings, and give fans a glimpse into his origin story.
Erna tells Fuse:
"The song itself is based on me just reflecting back to a place where I was born and raised; the place that made me who I am today, as a musician, as a man, as an artist and kind of sculpted my life. Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I'll revisit my hometown of Lawrence, Massachusetts and reflect on the times when I had much worse days. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of how much I have grown as a person. That all triggered a song for me that became the title track to the album."
Hometown Life will arrive on Sept. 30 through BMG, with fall tour dates coming soon. The album will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow (Aug. 5).
