Marvel’s ‘Runaways’ Series Coming to Hulu From ‘Gossip Girl’ Creators

Marvel plus Gossip Girl equals… success? That’s what Hulu is hoping, as Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have had their drama series Runaways, from Marvel Television and ABC Signature, ordered by Hulu, according to Deadline.

The Marvel book series debuted in 2003 from Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona and follows a group of teenagers who rail against their parents, all part of an evil crime organization. Hulu has ordered a pilot and is reportedly eyeing a full-season greenlight of the adaptation.

“I’m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn’t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life,” said Schwartz, who was also responsible for creating The O.C. Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television, will executive produce Runaways with Jim Chory, Schwartz and Savage.

The order is a curious move for Hulu since their competitor, Netflix, is steeped in the Marvel world with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and several upcoming shows. Runaways may prove that there’s enough Marvel to go around for all streaming services.
