Another very special MTV VMAs moment on Sunday: Future Hendrix hit the stage for the first time in the award show's history.
It was no surprise that Future rapped "Fuck Up Some Commas" outta the park—he's been on the road with Drake on the Summer Sixteen Tour for the last month. His introduction, though, was surprising: Olympic multi-multi-multi–gold medalist Michael Phelps did the honors, explaining that that Rio 2016 meme of his face came courtesy of "Stick Talk" blaring in his ears.
"There's no rapper today more inspiring than Future," Phelps said. "His optimism is right there in his name."
Before the show, Future teased the performance with an interactive Facebook video that let you look any which way you chose as the Dirty Sprite 2 trap god made a WWE-style walk to the VMAs stage:
2015 was an insane three-mixtape/one-album year for Future. 2016's been almost as busy, with the Purple Reign mixtape hitting in January, the EVOL LP hitting the month after, and the DJ Esco collab Project E.T. in June.
