Adventure Time, one of Cartoon Network's biggest cult hits, announced it will come to an end in 2018. The network explained in a statement that the final run of the animated show's episodes will include ”142 half-hours of content,” which includes new episodes, miniseries, specials and more.

Adventure Time, which premiered in April 2010, follows the post-apocalyptic adventures of best buddies Finn the Human and Jake the Dog in the Land of Ooo. Other kooky but well-loved characters are Princess Bubblegum, Ice King and Marceline the Vampire Queen.

Pendleton Ward, the show's creator, said in a statement:

“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

The show achieved cult status due to its mix of dark fairytale and magical whimsy, and went on to win six Emmys and two BAFTAs. Celebrities couldn't get enough of Adventure Time as well: Its guest voice actors included Andy Samberg, Matthew Broderick, George Takei, Rainn Wilson, Ron Pearlman, Biz Markie, Neil Patrick Harris and "Weird Al" Yankovic.
