‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Trailer Breaks ‘Star Wars’ Record for Single-Day Views

Like Anastasia Steele’s fascination with BDSM, it turns out a lot of people were surprisingly curious about the first trailer for Fifty Shades Darker when it dropped on Tuesday morning. In fact, the first look at the follow-up to Fifty Shades of Grey reportedly broke the all-time record for the most views of a new trailer in its first 24 hours, besting last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

According to Universal (via Deadline), the Fifty Shades Darker trailer was viewed 114 million times upon its release. That number comes from a collection of international Facebook and YouTube views, and bests the 112 million for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Fifty Shades Darker trailer possibly benefited from the mini-teaser of the full trailer that dropped on Monday, stoking anticipation for the full clip. The trailer featured Miguel singing Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.”

Fifty Shades Darker, based on E.L. James’ hit book series, is due out Feb. 10, 2017. Check out trailer hero Miguel’s throwback chat with Fuse below:
