If you're not a fan of the movie-to-TV adaptation trend that's been popping up everywhere, you should probably throw your TV out the window now. The latest classic film that will receive the reboot treatment is black comedy Heathers.
TV Land picked up a pilot that is based on the 1988 cult movie, which starred Winona Ryder, Shannen Doherty and Christian Slater. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this will be an anthology series that's set up similar to FX's Fargo, featuring a new group of "Heathers" for every setting.
The group of bratty Heathers from the original film also got an update: Heather McNamara (played by Lisanne Falk in the movie) is now a black lesbian, Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty) is a male who identifies as gender-queer (his real name is Heath) and Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) "has a body like Martha Dumptruck."
There is no set premiere date for Heathers, but production will begin this fall with Leslye Headland (Sleeping with Other People) directing. While we wait, check out our roundup of the biggest TV moments of this year so far and watch the original Heathers trailer below:
