Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo has died in a tragic car accident in South Fulton County, Georgia this morning, local police reports.
The artist, whose real name was Carlos Walker, was 40 years old. Atlanta radio personality Ryan Cameron as well as Lo's brother relayed the news on Twitter, claiming that it was a hit-and-run accident.
But according to Fulton police spokeswoman Cpl. Maureen Smith, “it has been confirmed now that it was a single car accident." Based on reports, the rapper's Audi went over a guardrail and hit two trees before catching on fire. He was pronounced dead on the scene while two other people in the car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Shawty Lo emerged onto the rap scene in the early '00s, due to the popularity of D4L (he was the group's founding member) and his 2007 debut single "Dey Know" from Units in the City. The rapper leaves behind 11 children.
