Hilary Duff & Boyfriend Jason Walsh Apologize For Insensitive Halloween Costumes

As fun as it is dressing up on Halloween, there's unfortunate inevitability that someone we all know and love will don an offensive costume. This year, it was Hilary Duff and her boyfriend Jason Walsh.

The couple appeared at the 2016 Casamigos Halloween Party with Duff dressed as a "sexy" pilgrim and Walsh in a Native American getup. Many have found Walsh's getup particularly offensive and racist for wearing another culture's traditional and ceremonial clothing as a fun costume. Yet it was even more problematic given the current situation in North Dakota where thousands of Native Americans and their supporters are protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline construction with more than 100 people arrested just this week in the now-violent demonstrations.

Both have apologized, with Duff saying the costume was "not properly thought through" on Twitter and Walsh shared that he "meant no disrespect" and "only has admiration for the indigenous people of America" via Instagram.

With today (Oct. 31) officially being Halloween, let's all promise to do better and really really think about our costumes this year, okay? It really shouldn't be that hard.
