Kid Cudi may be in rehab after he checked himself in for depression, but the artist is still putting out projects. Even though his album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin', is delayed, Cudi released the music video for "Surfin'" on Monday.
The track gets its funk from Pharrell Williams, with spooky bass line and brass building on top a drum-heavy base. "I ain't riding no waves / Too busy makin' my own waves, baby," Cudi sings on the hook, alluding to the industry-bashing he tweeted in September.
"Everyone thinks they're soooo great. Talkin top 5 and be having 30 people write songs for them," Cudi tweeted, aiming at Kanye West and Drake. "My tweets apply to who they apply. Ye, Drake, whoever. These n----s dont give a fuck about me. And they aint fuckin with me."
Those tweets eventually led to Drake pulling out a Cudi diss in his latest "Two Birds One Stone" song, where he rapped, "You stay Xann'd and Perc'd up / So when reality set in, you don't gotta face it." Cudi responded from rehab, saying, "Say it to face, pussy. You think it's a game. I wanna see you say it to my face. I'll be out soon. Promise."
In "Surfin'," Cudi's whipping out the same ideas: "The industry is so full of shit / Welcome y'all to the enema / Nah man, no subliminal / 'Cause they insecure, they know who they are."
