Frank Iero, frontman of punk rock band Frank Iero and the Patience and former My Chemical Romance guitarist, was involved in a serious tour van accident in Sydney today, according to Australia's 9 News. The incident occurred in front of Sydney’s Twitter headquarters, where the van was parked.
After the incident, Iero tweeted:
Hi friends thanks all for the well wishes. we're pretty banged up but miraculously alive& in stable condition. I'm still in a state of shock— frnkiero (@FrankIero) October 13, 2016
The band was gearing up for a Twitter Q&A before a bus crashed into the back of their van. The bus did not have any passengers, but the driver was taken to the hospital for mandatory tests. The police report states Iero "escaped injury but two other men had to be taken to hospital."
"One of the men was airlifted to St Vincent’s Hospital, the other was taken by road. They are both reported to be serious but stable," the report continues. Iero and his bandmates were set to perform tonight at the Metro Theatre, but that has now been cancelled with refunds available for tickets. Other band members have also confirmed to fans that they're fine:
Thanks for the love y'all. Everyone is safe and all good.— Matt Olsson (@MattOlssonMusic) October 13, 2016
I'm afraid I don't have many details I was not at the venue when the accident happened, but I have been told everyone is in stable condition— Alexander Paul (@TeamGrippo) October 13, 2016
Thank you for your well wishes guys.— Alexander Paul (@TeamGrippo) October 13, 2016
Gerard Way was shaken by the news, writing on Facebook:
"I awoke to some very upsetting, sad, and serious news. Heartbroken. I know just as much as all of you but I hope the continued outpouring of love, well wishes, and support help. Make sure to hug the ones you care about. Sending all my love to Frank and the boys."
