New 'Assassin's Creed' Movie Trailer: Journey Through Time With Michael Fassbender

It's been almost nine years since the first Assassin's Creed dropped, becoming an instant gamer-fave. On Dec. 21, its movie adaptation will finally hit theaters. Today's new trailer gives us more insight into how this whole "Michael Fassbender travels back 500 years to the Spanish Inquisition to become one with his deadly ancestor" mechanism works.

But mostly it's just got a lot of sick fighting and reckless jumps off very high things.

While the last trailer saw Fassbender's Callum Lynch trying to come to grips with this scientifically advanced idea and killing poor saps to the tune of Kanye West's "I Am a God," this one goes the rock route. A trailer for everyone, you know?

The official Assassin's Creed synopsis reads:

"Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day."

In addition to the Academy Award–nominated Fassbender, the movie is set to star Oscar winners Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons, plus Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams. It's directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, 2015's Fassbender-starring Macbeth) and penned by Michael Lesslie (Macbeth) with Exodus: Gods and Kings writers Bill Collage and Adam Cooper.
