Following a $40 million deal with Chris Rock for two stand-up comedy specials, Netflix has signed on for three specials from Dave Chappelle, who hasn't done one in 12 years.
One special will be a brand-new creation alongside veteran comedy director/producer Stan Lathan; two are previously filmed, at Austin City Limits and the Hollywood Palladium, but never-before released. The latter two will premiere together in 2017, but there's no word on the new special's premiere date.
“Dave Chappelle is a legendary voice in comedy—searing, vital, and now more than ever, essential,” says Lisa Nishimura, vice president of original documentary and comedy at Netflix. “Dave’s three new specials promise to be some of the most anticipated events in comedy.”
