Shawn Mendes has gifted human cupcake Grace VanderWaal what we presume to be her first guitar, and the America's Got Talent winner admits she may just take a break from her signature ukulele to try it out.
"Thank you sooooooo much for this beautiful guitar. It was fun singing with you today," she wrote on Twitter about the branded event they attended together on Tuesday. In a video, VanderWaal lifts up the acoustic six-string, showing off the custom engraving that reads, "Miracles do happen," Grace's go-to motto.
VanderWaal, who recently signed with Columbia and announced her debut EP, Perfectly Imperfect, has been adamantly pro-uke, but told Radio.com in June that she might be willing to try a different instrument.
"A lot of people tell me I should play guitar, and how ukulele is not really an instrument— kind of a toy," she said. "I really beg to differ because I think you can really get good on it. Maybe one day I’ll play guitar, but think ukulele will always be my main instrument because I love it."
She echoed that sentiment in the video, saying, "I know I play the ukulele, but I will give it a strum." Mendes responded with an offer, explaining that he'd have her playing in no time.
Mendes has been a fan for VanderWaal for a bit, showing her love in September shortly before her America's Got Talent win.
