For 15 years, the Unforgettable Gala has celebrated Asian-American trailblazers in the entertainment industry and their 2016 iteration is shaping up to be their biggest and most prestigious. That's in thanks to part to Steve Aoki, who Fuse can exclusively announce will be honored with the Music Vanguard Award at the Dec. 10 ceremony in Los Angeles.
2016 has been a major year for the electronic musician/producer. In addition to releasing his 4OKI EP in July, Aoki dropped his new Beat Bomb mobile game this summer, starred in his own Netflix documentary I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, and, perhaps most impressively, celebrated the 20th anniversary of his Dim Mak Records that culminated with a special, celebratory stage at Electric Zoo 2016.
There's loads of impressive talent also being honored at the addition to Aoki at the Unforgettable Gala. George Takei receives the Icon Award, while Dr. Ken comedian/actor Ken Jeong will be honored as Actor of the Year, Wong Fu Productions will receive the Digital Influencer Award, actor Brian Tee (Chicago Med, The Wolverine) will be honored with BMW's Ultimate Drive Award, and director/storyboard artist Jennifer YuhNelson (Kung Fu Panda 3) will be named Director of the Year.
Meanwhile, there's loads of exciting performance set for the evening. K-pop will have a big showing with both Eric Nam and boy B.I.G performing, alongside Chris "Stahyl" Gatdula of America's Best Dance Crew champs The Jabbawockeez, singer-songwriter Kina Grannis, and East West Players, the longest-running professional theater of color troupe in America. Empire's Terrence Howard and Fresh Off the Boat's Randall Park lead the list of presenters.
Kore Asian Media hosts the 15th annual Unforgettable Gala and will livestream the event via Facebook Live the day of the event. More information can be found at UnforgettableGala.com.
