The CW's modern-day Archie series Riverdale just scored a major high school–tale veteran in Molly Ringwald. Putting the cherry atop the 1950s diner sundae is the fact that she'll play Archie's mom, Mary Andrews.
The series announcement on Wednesday revealed that Ringwald will debut in Episode 10, with her character having been chasing her dreams for two years prior. "Luckily she’ll be coming back just as her son and husband Fred need her," Entertainment Weekly writes.
Riverdale hits The CW on Thursday, Jan. 26. The recent trailer shocked us with its dark tone. "We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks,” executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said beforehand. He is joined on the project by fellow EP Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, The Flash).
Another actress sticking to her brand by joining Riverdale is Stranger Things favorite Shannon Purser, a.k.a. Barb the God.
