Sky Arts has pulled its controversial Michael Jackson episode in Urban Myths after the icon's family expressed their distaste of Joseph Fiennes' portrayal. "We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series,” the U.K. network tweeted.
"This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family," they continued. "We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offense. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.” The news follows Paris Jackson commenting on the "insulting" trailer of Fiennes playing MJ.
When asked about her thoughts on the TV series," the 18-year-old tweeted “I'm so incredibly offended by it, as i’m sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit." The Urban Myths episode was meant to be a reimagining of Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor (played by Grease star Stockard Channing) and Marlon Brando (Brian Cox) taking a road trip after 9/11.
The network planned to air it on Jan. 19. See their Twitter announcement below.
