Ed Sheeran clearly can't keep his mouth shut when he gets excited, because he accidentally revealed when Taylor Swift will be releasing new music. During a recent interview with BBC, Sheeran began chatting about his forthcoming Divide album before spilling the beans about his friend.
“I think this year is going to be the high point. I have a feeling about it," he said. "17 is my lucky number, and everyone I was scared of releasing of albums around me released them all last year—people like Beyoncé and The Weeknd and Bruno Mars.” Sheeran continued, “Taylor [Swift] isn’t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year—Christmas is the smartest time to release because that’s when everyone buys records. So I’ve got a full year of just all Ed, all the time.”
So there you have it, Swifties! If Sheeran's comments are true, the pop star could be following up 2014's 1989 in the coming months. Last year, rumors swirled about Swift dropping a new album in the fall. Scott Borchetta, the head of Big Machine Records (her label), shut those reports down with a succinct "NOPE" on Twitter.
Sheeran's BBC interview became more interesting when he described his worst injury. "I smashed a bottle of beer into my hand and got 12 stitches before a gig. Then I played the gig and split them open again while playing," he said right after he remembered burning his foot in a volcano. "It almost hit a tendon and meant I wouldn't be able to use this hand to play guitar. So, yeah, that was the worst injury I've had. I'm actually getting a bit twitchy thinking about it."
The singer seems to be a klutz, because he recently told The Guardian that he drunkenly smashed buddy Justin Bieber's face in with a golf club:
“We were in Japan. We’d been out to a dive bar. He just drank water and I got hammered. Then we went to a golf course, and he lay on the floor and put a golf ball in his mouth and told me to hit it out of his mouth. I was like, ‘Fuck, I need to aim this properly,’ and I swung. And you know in films when someone gets punched, and you hear that fake sound, like a slap? But in real life when someone gets punched, you hear that dull thud, a bit sickening? I heard a sound like the last one, and saw his security guard looking at me like”—he pulls a horrified expression. “I’d cracked Justin Bieber right in the cheek with a golf club. That was one of those ‘What the fuck?’ moments.”
That's almost as gnarly as when the Princess Beatrice of York reportedly sliced him up British-style by a ceremonial sword last November. Sheeran plans to drop his anticipated Divide album on March 3 (if he doesn't get into another strange scenario beforehand).
