Dr. Dolittle will make outrageous chitchat with animals once again, and this time he'll be doing it as Robert Downey Jr. Deadline reports that Iron Man will star in a reboot called The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. "Several studios chased this one hard," the site writes.

John Dolittle was born as the star of a dozen children's novels by British author/civil engineer Hugh Lofting. Then came a 1967 musical movie starring Rex Harrison, followed most famously by a pair of Eddie Murphy movies in 1998 and 2001.

Murphy's character's daughter, played by Kyla Pratt, headlined three more films from 2006 - '09. The last two bore the radical subtitles Tail to the Chief and Million Dollar Mutts.

The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle will come from Oscar-winning bert writer/director Stephen Gaghan, whose credits include serious fare like Syriana, Gold, Traffic and Rules of Engagement.

Quick request: Can Robert Downey Jr. please make that movie version of Black Mirror's "The Entire History of You" episode soon?
