USA Network has officially cast their Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur for the upcoming Unsolved drama pilot, The Hollywood Reporter revealed. Newcomer Wavyy Jonez will play the legendary Brooklyn rapper, while Marcc Rose will reprise his role from 2015's Straight Outta Compton as the California star.
Unsolved: The Murders of Biggie and Tupac (its working title) was first announced in November and plans to chronicle the two major police investigations into the separate murders. Tupac was killed in a Las Vegas drive-by shooting in September 1996 at the age of 25. Less than a year later, in March 1997, the 24-year-old Biggie was murdered by an unknown assailant in Los Angeles.
Jonez and Rose join fellow cast members Jimmi Simpson, Bokeem Woodbine and Josh Duhamel. The three previously announced actors will play police officers who are part of the investigation. Anthony Hemingway, the director behind FX’s American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, is set to direct and executive produce the pilot. Kyle Long (Suits) is penning the script and will also executive produce. As of now, there is no set premiere date for the hourlong pilot.
Unsolved is Hollywood's latest insight into the rap icons' murders. Back in September, Johnny Depp was cast as a detective who investigated their deaths in the upcoming movie Labyrinth. The Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me (directed by Benny Boom) will hit theaters on June 16.
