The Daily Show, The Late Show, The Tonight Show—why not just cut to the chase and do The President Show? Comedy Central sees no obstacle, hiring the man Rolling Stone called the election's best Donald Trump impersonator, Anthony Atamanuik, to host a weekly talk show playing POTUS. The comic previously hosted the channel's @midnight for a week as Trump.
"The idea is that Trump is subverting the traditional, fake media by hosting a show in the Oval Office, complete with field pieces and guest interviews," Entertainment Weekly writes. The show will air at 11:30pm on Thursdays, with The Daily Show with Trevor Noah ("Noah Trevor?" bumbles Fake Trump) as its lead-in. Watch above for a taste.
Anthony Atamanuik did a 40-city Trump vs. Bernie tour last year with James Adomian. He said of The President Show in a press release:
“Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department. But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”
Mike Pence will be at Trump's side for The President Show, played by Peter Grosz. This summer, Comedy Central is also starting a weekly late-night show with Australia's Jim Jefferies.
