Marvel's whole Netflix universe (itself part of the actual MCU) is coming to its first four-way crossover moment with The Defenders this Aug. 18. Today, the first trailer gives us more Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and (sigh) Iron Fist, a.k.a. "the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, the smartass detective, the righteous ex-con and the kid with the glowing fist." A voiceover by Daredevil's Stick (Scott Glen of The Leftovers) cautions: "The war for New York Is Here, so get your shit together."
So what links do we get up front? For starters, attorney Matt Murdoch rescues Jessica Jones from Misty Knight's interrogation. Iron Fist lands a good one on Cage's face, then gets a blank face when he tells Harlem's hero that he's immortal.
You'll also see Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple, Elodie Yung's surprise return as Elektra and Sigourney Weaver going Peak Sigourney as villain Alexandra. It's all soundtracked to Nirvana's "Come as You Are," as was the too-tease-y teaser from last summer.
Netflix and Marvel's four-shows-and-a-miniseries plan came to light nearly four years ago. They kicked it off with Daredevil (the only show with two seasons so far) in April 2015; the celebrated Jessica Jones came next, then the pretty-celebrated Luke Cage, then the not-celebrated Iron Fist.
