Listen to Depeche Mode's Latest Synth-Pop Fever Dream
Depeche Mode—the most consistent band to come out of the 1980s' synth-pop explosion—are back with an untitled new song that is cool, creepy and just in time for your 2012 Halloween party playlist.
Boasting a throbbing industrial stomp and hallucinatory lyrics like "I felt my tongue with my mouth and I began to speak," this demo sounds—as Prefix smartly pointed out—like Depeche's take on Nick Cave. Think "Stagger Lee" but with bleak, pulsing synths instead of pounding ivories.
This song is one of 20 tracks the British outfit have recorded for their upcoming 13th record, which is slated for a 2013 release. And although we don't know anything else about it—like what it's called, for instance—this tune on its own is enough to leave us thirsty for more. Listen above and be very, very afraid.
