Nas Talks Hurricane Sandy, Meeting Amy Winehouse

Nas has hardly been one to hold his tongue throughout his career. When we caught up with the iconic rapper during Voodoo Music Fest, Hurricane Sandy was on its way, leading Nas to get reflective on his home city of New York. The Life is Good emcee also spoke on his current tour with Lauryn Hill and how he and longtime friend Amy Winehouse originally linked up. Highlights below, but the whole vid is worth a watch.

On Hurricane Sandy
"It’s crazy to be in New Orleans the same night as there’s a hurricane coming through my city in New York. I wanted New Orleans to keep us in their prayers being that they went through one of the worst hurricanes that’s ever hit the country. Just pray for New York that we turn out alright."

On Touring with Lauryn Hill
"I asked Lauryn to come out at the SummerJam in New York. I just felt that to be on a tour with someone as talented as me. Lh; what’s better than that? It felt like the right time and the right two people to do it. Those different styles of rap but me and her fit in the same vein."

On Playing Radio City Music Hall New Year’s Eve
"It’s a landmark in New York and it’s a place I grew up as a kid going to. It was a big deal to go there. It’s just special for me to be a New Yorker and you could be anywhere and I could be anywhere in the world, but New Year’s in New York is what I grew up doing when it wasn’t even an option to go to an island or vacation. To bring that to Radio City is a dream."
