R&B Vet Mario Talks Nicki Minaj Collabo "Somebody Else"
For over a decade, Baltimore singer Mario has delivered blazing R&B-hip hop jams, including 2004's No. 1 single "Let Me Love You" and 2009's Gucci Mane collabo "Break Up." For his latest single "Somebody Else," from his first album in four years out this fall, Mario sings of heartbreak when his girl leaves for another dude. But he needed a feisty female to help make the track "timeless, special and relatable," and he knew the perfect one: Nicki Minaj.
"She's relatable, but at the same time very rebellious," Mario says of Minaj, who calls out her man for his temper and disrespect on the track.
And Mario says the track's hook, lifted from "Remember the Rain" by '70s disco group the Sylvers, sealed the deal for "Somebody Else." "I wanted my single to remake something that was familiar," he explains.
