Chvrches on 'Game of Thrones' Theme: "It Wasn't a Cover, It Was a Joke"

Although Chvrches grabbed a ton of headlines earlier this year when they uploaded a video of themselves playing the Game of Thrones theme in the studio, the Scottish synth-pop trio insist the whole thing is really just a joke.

"I sent out a nonchalant tweet about covering it," keyboardist Martin Doherty tells Fuse. "Then the next day we were bored in the studio and I started playing it on the keyboards, and [lead singer Lauren Mayberry] started filming it. Then it gets reported everywhere, 'Chvrches Cover Game of Thrones Theme.' Radio stations are asking us, "Where is this cover?!' And we're going, 'It wasn't a cover. It was a joke!'"

Nevertheless, the trio doesn't mind being linked to the blockbuster HBO series. "I'm a huge fan of the show and I hear they have bands on all the time," Doherty says. "I'm free. I'm in. Honestly."
