Joey Bada$$ Highlights Lost Friends, Current Success in "Hilary Swank" Video
In the new video for Joey Bada$$'s "Hilary Swank," which, for the record, has nothing to do with the actress, the 18-year-old Brooklyn rapper takes the viewer on an emotional journey, highlighting both celebratory and painful times.
Opening with a shot of a younger Joey freestyling with his crew, the video intersperses dextrous wordplay with footage of Kendrick Lamar extolling the rapper alongside Bada$$'s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel.
Yet there's also pain, as the clip above ends with a verse from Bada$$'s Pro Era crew member Capital Steez, who committed suicide late last year.
"Hilary Swank" shows Bada$$'s maturation process in full bloom; a confident rapper who still realizes he has a way to go to take the crown, but is keenly aware that he possesses the tools to do it.
