Rixton Talk Getting 24-Hour Notice to Open for Justin Bieber Concert

When Fuse asks how Rixton met, the first word out of frontman Jake Roche's mouth is "Tinder." He's joking about the dating site, but humor is in the band's nature. Roche rides a homemade wrecking ball naked in their video for "Make Out," claims the band actually started when he picked drummer Lewi Morgan over an ex-girlfriend, and calls their producer Benny Blanco (know for his work with Katy Perry and Britney Spears) "boring."

"The main thing for us is to not take yourself seriously," he explains. "Just have fun with it."

Rixton exist somewhere between Maroon 5 and Chris Brown, a sound keyboardist Danny Wilkin describes as having a "Bruno Mars vibe with Beach Boys harmonies."

After releasing a series covers on YouTube, the band caught the attention of Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun. "We thought it was a prank," Roche tells Fuse, "We still do, we think everyone in the room is in on a big prank or something. It didn’t happen over night. It was four years before anybody decided to take a risk on us.”

Until now. “We got 24-hour notice by Scooter saying, 'Look, you’re in New York. You’ve got a day off. How do you fancy opening for Justin Bieber in front of 25,000 people?' I think that was around the time I wet myself... then we opened for Ariana Grande in L.A."

Their latest single, "Me and My Broken Heart," tells the tale of desperate love. "I talk on behalf of us four that we’ve had our hearts broken," Roche admits. "It’s about a girl that’s not very nice, but you’re still desperate to want her."

Let's hope their humor will carry them past it.
