Ty Dolla $ign Talks Selling Records to Free His Jailed Brother

Los Angeles R&B singer Ty Dolla $ign has one of the runaway hits of the early year with the slinky "Paranoid," but he's already looking forward to his debut album, which is tentatively titled Free TC.

TC is Ty's little brother, who he says is currently imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit. With his album, which is slated to be released this year, Ty wants to help his brother beat the case.

"I'm definitely gonna try to sell some records this time to free TC, that's the whole purpose of it," he tells Fuse's Esteban Serrano. "I'm gonna give the people a super-quality album and use that money and get him an incredible lawyer."

One of the songs that may help him achieve that goal is a collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, which Ty says is one of the best songs on the album.

"I like this song I got called 'L.A.' with Kendrick," he explains. "It's, like, equivalent to Jay Z and Alicia Keys' ['Empire State of Mind']. We made an L.A. [version]."

Elsewhere in the interview, Ty talks about being in the studio with Lupe Fiasco and meeting West Coast rap legends like Tupac and Snoop Dogg as a kid.
