Girl, Down: Big Freedia Talks 'Just Be Free' Debut Album

It's looking to be a huge month—and summer—for Big Freedia, who unleashes her long awaited debut LP Just Be Free on June 17, just days after the Season 2 premiere of Big Freedia: Queen of BounceSet to drop the first-ever nationwide bounce album, the rising star sat down with Fuse host Esteban Serrano to discuss one of her biggest career milestones to date.

"It's my first album to the world, and I wanted people to feel what I've been doing," Freedia said, explaining that she had strived to keep her style as authentic as possible. "I didn't really do any collaborations; I want people to feel and hear only me. I want to not ride off of anyone else's coattails."

Just Be Free, recorded and produced in New Orleans and Oakland, features standout tracks "Dangerous," "Explode," "Lift Dat Leg Up" and "N O Bounce." When asked if she ever gets "that feeling" when she knows she's recorded a banger, Freedia immediately singled out "Explode."

"You definitely get a feeling in the studio when you know you've created something that people can feel. When you're satisfied, then you know that you can satisfy other people," she explained. "'Explode' embodies that."
