Rising Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy broke out in 2013 with his single "Riptide," a song that he credits all of his current success to—including a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records.
He first started playing it at open-mic nights and got positive feedback from his family and friends. "I had no real evidence it was going to do what it did," he told Fuse backstage at Bonnaroo 2014. "It's a real door opener." The song had enough momentum behind it to land him a slot at the Tennessee, festival which he confesses was a good experience, despite his being a relative unknown.
