Tinashe Discusses Drake, Her Debut Album & Working With DJ Mustard, Mike Will

You might be unfamiliar with Tinashe now, but that's about to change. Remember this Drake remix? That sample is all T, the genius behind the phrase "2 On."

"It can be used in multiple situations. It’s when you’re super hyped up about something," Tinashe explains of the expression. "If you’ve just scored a touchdown and you won the game or if you just aced the test or if you’re getting ready to go to the club with your friends, those are scenarios where you are '2 On.'"

Catchy, right? That's probably how Drizzy discovered her. "I had no idea that Drake was going to remix '2 On.' I was just as surprised as everyone else was. When I logged onto Twitter and was reading my @ mentions and someone was like, 'Oh my god, Tinashe! Drake remixed your song!' I was like, 'What? Is this real?' It’s really awesome when people that are celebrities are tweeting about you or tweeting your music or using it in videos, something like that. It basically shows that they’re really into it for the music. No one asked them to do anything like that."

With her name out there, Tinashe is in the process of recording her debut full-length, which has an impressive list of names attached to it. "The album is called Aquarius. Ironically—I’m not super into astrology or the zodiac or anything like that. I am just trying to put out a body of work that represents who I am and where I’m at," the singer shares.

"I’ve worked with some really amazing people on this album. I’ve been very lucky to work with the best in the business from DJ Mustard, Mike Will, Boi-1da from Toronto, Dev HynesRyan Hemsworth, Nez and Rio and Stuart Matthewman from Sade, which was amazing. Amazing! It’s been quite the journey."
