Lorde is known for her eclectic music taste: her iPod includes everything from Arcade Fire tracks to Patti Smith songs (who she once called the best role model for young women) to Disclosure and Taylor Swift. Covering said artists is the next logical step, right?
Pitchfork reports that the New Zealand wunderkind has been covering indie maverick Bon Iver's "Heavenly Father" and the unstoppable Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" on her current North American tour. By the sound of the screams in these clips, people are into it!
Lorde's best West take is slow-moving, a dark pop rendition of the Graduation hit. Her "Heavenly Father" is a bit more precarious, breathing life into an otherwise somber tune. In Philadelphia she introduced the song for those unfamiliar with the Bon Iver track: "It's a cover and it's about having faith in something, in anyone, in yourself." That it is!
