In its first two seasons, The Following has garnered a cult-like following for its portrayal of an ex-FBI agent trying to catch a serial killer and his murderous cult. The psychological thriller doesn't return until early next year, but two of its stars tell Fuse host Dan Brown what's coming at New York Comic Con.
The Following star Kevin Bacon, playing former agent Ryan Hardy, told us that despite catching his nemesis killer Joe Carroll at the end of Season 2, there's a lot more drama to come.
"What we find out this year is that Joel was just the tip of the iceberg," the Golden Globe Award winner says. "The basis of the show was what if a serial killer had a whole network of serial killers? Obviously, we couldn't sustain that for three, four, five years. There has to be something bigger than Joel and that's what we find out this year."
Meanwhile, Shawn Ashmore tells us he's hopeful for a happy ending for his character, Agent Mike Weston, who ended the season killing one character as he began falling for another.
"His journey is very dark," the X-Men actor admits of his character. "As we get into the third season, he's still trying to hunt down Mark Grey, who's the last survivor of the family that was responsible not just for the death of his father but of many, many people. It's not easy, let me put it that way. But that revenge journey will continue.
"There's moments of hope," he continues. "I think Max Hardy, who's Ryan's niece, the romance that developed last season was a piece of that hope. The potential there could be something better for him. We continue to struggle with that as the season progresses."
