For its newest commercial, Geico is banking on a little late-'80s nostalgia. The car insurance company enlisted Salt-N-Pepa to make the act's signature hit, 1988's "Push It," brilliantly promote affordable auto coverage.
Watch the 30-second spot above as the classic rap trio give lyrical encouragement (a.k.a. repeating the iconic line, "Ah, push it...push it real good!") to people pushing elevator buttons, a man mowing his lawn and women in a Lamaze class. Be warned: "Push It" is about to get stuck in your head.
The girls' outfits also touch on the throwback feel with Cheryl "Salt" James, Sandra "Pepa" Denton and DJ Spinderella all rocking huge, '80s-tastic jackets with accompanying gold chains.
The ad marks the second mainstream nod for "Push It" this year. In February, Future dropped his Pharrell-assisted single "Move That Dope" that reinterpreted the Salt-N-Pepa hit. Were we expecting a mini-resurgence from the girl group? Nope. Are we complaining? Not at all.
