Avicii's "The Nights" May As Well Be Renamed "YOLO" in New Vid
Yes, an EDM anthem can induce feelings that channel Y.O.L.O to the extreme, but Avicii's video for "The Nights" takes it one step further by truly living life to the fullest one frame at a time.
In the adrenaline-spiking visual for his latest track, Avicii taps YouTuber/daredevil extraordinaire Rory Kramer and his death and gravity-defying tendencies. Before the music even starts, we hear Rory deliver an empowering introduction that echoes the song's chorus: "When I was 16, my father said, 'You can do anything you want with your life. You just have to be willing to work hard to get it.' That's when I decided, when I die, I want to be remembered for the life I lived—not the money I made."
As the song's electro-country vibes come to a head with each and every chorus, Rory matches the swells and build of the song with feats of his own: He jumps off cliffs, cannonballs into pools after launching himself off of the rooves of various buildings, smashes car windows (with permission from the vehicle's owner, to be sure) and barrels headfirst into a bunch of stunts your typical dude would shy away from. Not Rory. His "you only live once" approach is a perfect foil for Avicii's new anthem.
