It's not easy to impress a virtuoso like Janelle Monáe, but Jidenna has done exactly that, and now he's ready to wow the world. The Brooklyn-bred singer/songwriter is signed to Monáe's Wondaland label (which recently revamped itself by teaming up with the powerhouse known as Epic Records) and he looks poised to become one of R&B and hip hop's most exciting new voices in 2015. Get to know the Janelle-approved singer in the interview above.
"Janelle's a visionary, she has seen how far I can take it as an artist," the well-spoken singer says of his boss. "She knows how to take a small brand and make it larger and blow it up. It's been great to really work with her who is such a general and so fun and wild, all at the same time. Those are the elements you look for in a great artist."
Jidenna tells Fuse that his single "Classic Man," which is starting to gain American airplay, is making an impression on people past being an addictive slice of R&B.
"I believe myself to be a confident individual and a man with vision and not just merely ideas," he adds. "I believe that people are seeing that in the ["Classic Man"] video and feeling it on the record."
Look out for Jidenna to keep making waves this spring, with his collaborative single with Monáe, titled "Yoga," dropping in April. But for now, check out the "Classic Man" video below.
