You'd think a radio personality as famous as DJ SKEE would have an undying love for the format of radio–and he does. He spent over half his life hosting terrestrial and satellite radio shows, where he helped break some of the biggest artists in music today. But then, he got sick of it.
"Radio, to me, always will be the most powerful platform for discovering music," SKEE explains. But, frustrated at the lack of innovation amongst traditional radio networks "It's one area of the music business that hasn't really shifted from analog to digital," he says), SKEE decided to take matters into his own hands.
He helped found a digital radio network called Dash Radio in 2014, and now hosts a show on the network daily. It offers an alternative to streaming services like Pandora or Spotify, with the heart of radio at its core: A DJ curating a playlist and sharing fresh, new songs with listeners.
The simplicity of Dash Radio is why SKEE holds it dear, and looking back at his decision to drop the mic on traditional radio now, he holds that it was the right decision for him.
