Slayer Unleash New Track "When the Stillness Comes"
Metalheads the world over are rejoicing the return of Slayer today. The thrash titans have just released "When the Stillness Comes," a song from their forthcoming Record Store Day 7" which will hit stores on April 18. The track starts off with an ominous guitar part that brings to mind the intro to "Spill the Blood," a track from Slayer's South of Heaven album.
After about a minute in, "When the Stillness Comes" bleeds open with a storm of crashing cymbals and distorted guitars, but the song sticks to a creeping pace. For the verse, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya does that spooky talk-singing thing he did on "Dead Skin Mask" back in the day. One part of the song finds the singer warning, "the last thing you see are my eyes."
"It's about a dude who wakes up at a crime scene and realizes he's killed everybody. It's really cool," said Slayer guitarist Kerry King of the inspiration behind the "When the Stillness Comes" lyrics.
