Yo, you're used to covers in BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge; it's practically part of the game at this point. Mashups, though? Little Mix, you're too much.
The British girl group kicked off their set as it usually might, by covering one of the songs of the moment in their own style—this time, Jason Derulo's "Want to Want Me" received the honor, the quartet trading verses, each adding a little oomph on certain notes, before convening for a harmony-laden chorus.
Be that as it may, someone in the studio realized that "Want to Want Me" would sound mighty fine paired with Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," and that's where the performance goes in its second half. Should this miracle of science and musical notation have been wrought upon this world? Were we ever even worthy?
But then that's not even it: There's a surprise cover at the end, though that mashup makes way, way more sense, at least on the Whitney Houston side.
MVP: Leigh-Anne Pinnock. And that keyboard dude. Organ for days.
Perhaps this performance will get you pumped for the impending release of Little Mix's new album Get Weird, out Nov. 6 and featuring lead single "Black Magic."
