Things have been relatively quiet on the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice front lately, which is surprising considering it’s got Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Lex Luthor and two of DC Comics’ biggest heroes kicking each other’s asses. (Maybe Star Wars has too tight a grip on the promo game right now.)
Now we’ve got a new look--our first significant one since July’s almost-four-minute trailer. This one has Batman locked away in a dusty chamber with armed guards who bow to Superman. The Caped Crusader’s newly re-stubby ears are still looking way retro. Grouchy Supes approaches and rips off Batman’s decidedly low-tech, floppy cowl, reminding us that we are still living in a world where BEN AFFLECK IS THE DARK KNIGHT. He poignantly drops the mask on the ground, because Superman don’t need no stinkin’ mask.
(Segue-less friendly reminder: Ben Affleck is directing himself in the first standalone Batman movie he’ll star in. First up, though, is November 2017’s Justice League.)
The complete new Superman v. Batman: Dawn of Justice trailer will debut on Wednesday, Dec. 2, during Jimmy Kimmel Live! The same show premiered the Captain America: Civil War trailer last week, wherein more major heroes—the Cap and Iron Man—square off. The two movies have always been closely linked, as they were originally set to premiere on the same day, May 6, 2016. Now Batman v. Superman is set for March 25.
The Captain America: Civil War trailer broke Marvel’s record for most trailer views in 24 hours, racking up 61 million. That’s almost double Avengers: Age of Ultron’s 34 million views. Coming Soon writes that Star Wars: The Force Awakens holds the all-time trailer record with 128 million views in one day.
