You can definitely hear a bit of Prince in Ro James (just listen to "Permission"), so when the alt-R&B singer revealed his favorite artists to Fuse—which, of course, included The Purple One—during a recent visit, we weren't super surprised. But in the latest episode of Top 5, James also gave us the scoop on his R&B influences—including Lauryn Hill.
"I just thought, as an artist, she brought individuality that was raw, soulful," James said about the former Fugees singer/rapper. "With the rap approach, her lyrics were on point, which made me pay attention to my lyrics, pay attention to the feeling of my music."
