Robert Glasper Explains the Influence of Social Issues on His Music and Family

Fuse's new concert special Live Alive: Hiatus Kaiyote is now available in full on the Fuse TV app now. The special included a roundtable with some of the most innovative names in jazz, hip-hop and R&B today.

Besides Hiatus Kaiyote, the intimate discussion included moderator Anthony Valadez, musician and GRAMMY-winning producer Terrace Martin, jazz pianist and GRAMMY-winning producer Robert Glasper, and critically acclaimed saxophonist, composer and bandleader Kamasi Washington.

In this roundtable clip, Glasper talks about how social issues have always influenced the music he loves, and why today's issues influence his own music. Reflecting on his position as a father raising a son in this world, Glasper says, "Now that I have a kid, my perspective is different...I have to explain things to him."
