Coheed and Cambria's Claudio Sanchez Talks Post-Fatherhood Songwriting: Interview

During May's first-ever Rock 'N Derby Festival in Schaghticoke, N.Y., Fuse caught up with Coheed and Cambria's Claudio Sanchez where he dove into the creation of the band's The Color Before the Sun album (released last October).

The LP marked their first non-conceptual album and the only one not part of The Amory Wars storyline, which gave Sanchez a different lyrical challenge that "made for a great story." Anticipating the birth of his son and finding out renters had turned his house into a marijuana farm further fueled his writing:

"I found myself in a place in my life where it made sense to do that. My son Atlas was going to be born, and for me this was a time where it allowed the songs to speak for themselves and really showcase my love for my wife, and the situations I was going through before we were pregnant. And the endurance we as a couple had gone through when we found out our country home was destroy."
