British pop singer Anne-Marie tells Fuse that all of her songs are based on true stories—and that couldn’t be more clear with her shimmering single “Alarm.” The track, which has over 6 million views on YouTube and is featured on her Karate EP, is about infidelity, which Anne-Marie experienced firsthand before writing the song.
“I just had a gut feeling that my boyfriend at the time was doing something bad,” she says. “I investigated—a lot—and obviously I found out he was doing something, and I just wrote a song. And every detail is quite relevant, so he’s probably sitting there, like, ‘Oh my God, that’s about me!’”
